MANILA – The second big screen team-up of Kim Chiu and Xian Lim is now the highest grossing January release in history, according to ABS-CBN’s movie production outfit.
“Bride for Rent,” which is Star Cinema’s opening salvo for 2014, has already earned a total of P325 million as of February 7.
This was revealed by Star Cinema’s ad and promo director Roxy Liquigan in a reply to a Twitter user inquiring about the film’s box-office performance.
It was also previously reported that “Bride for Rent” was a hit among Filipinos in the United States and Canada.
Early this month, Chiu, in behalf of all the cast members, took to Instagram and Twitter to everyone who has watched the film.
“good morning friends, romans, countrymen!!!!!! WOW!!!!! a GGGOOOOODDDDD MORNING indeed! maraming maraming 1,000,000,000x salamat po sa supporta nyo sa bride for rent!!!!:) unbelievable! overwhelming! basta lahat na! salamat po sa inyong lahat!!!:) #thankyoupapaGOD,” she said.
Aside from Chiu and Lim, the movie also features Pilita Corrales, Tirso Cruz III, Dennis Padilla, Matt Evans, Martin del Rosario and Empoy.
The film centers on Rocky (Chiu), whose frantic search for a job leads her to an audition called by Rocco (Lim), who is looking for a woman to pretend to be his wife, in the hope of accessing his trust fund.
With the burden of preventing her family's eviction from their rented home, Rocky takes up the role which soon develops into a long-term act.
