MANILA - Boy Abunda and Kris Aquino, who are dubbed the country's "King and Queen of Talk," will co-host anew starting Monday an eponymous 15-minute show that promises a fast-paced look at the day's hottest topics.
"Aquino and Abunda Tonight," which will be the hosts' first regular show together in over two years, will air weeknights after "The Legal Wife" on ABS-CBN's primetime block starting February 10.
The format: a run-down of daily top stories, with topics ranging from showbiz, lifestyle, to politics. The program promises to deliver its segments "from a layman's point of view," and with perspectives on how certain issues can affect viewers' daily lives.
Aside from Aquino and Abunda's respective commentaries, the show will also tap public opinion on certain topics via its social media surveys.
The co-hosts' last program together, "Showbiz News Ngayon," used a similar format but had 30-minute episodes and focused on entertainment news. It ran from 2010 to 2011, but Aquino only stayed for the first year.
Previously, Aquino and Abunda also shared hosting duties on "Boy & Kris," a morning talk show focusing on showbiz and lifestyle news that aired for two years starting 2007.
Their tandem is arguably the most popular: their stint on the entertainment talk show "The Buzz" saw them co-host for 10 years until Aquino's departure in 2010.
Aquino and Abunda's first-ever team-up, however, was in 1995, when they were tapped as the pioneering hosts of GMA-7's "Startalk" along with Lolit Solis. Aquino left a year later, while Abunda stayed on for another four years until he transferred to ABS-CBN to host "The Buzz."
Aside from the premiere of "Aquino and Abunda Tonight" on Monday, viewers can also look forward to an earlier time slot for Aquino's daily morning reality show "Kris TV."
The program, starting February 10, will air from 7:30 until 9 a.m.
Abunda, meanwhile, will no longer be part of the late-night newscast "Bandila," which he co-anchored with Julius Babao, Karen Davila, and Ces Drilon for three years starting 2011.
