MANILA — Toni Gonzaga, one of the most visible figures in local showbiz, has been open over the years about her conservative upbringing, traditional values, and being an "obedient" daughter to her parents.

Those have translated to not having once spent a vacation with her now-husband, filmmaker Paul Soriano, throughout their eight-year relationship prior to their 2015 wedding.

In candid terms, Gonzaga, in her recent viral vlog, wanted to experience what she referred to as an early "honeymoon," but her patience and believing in "God's perfect time" prevailed over that desire.

"Maybe there are some things in your life you're in a rush to get to or to have. It may hurt now to wait, but it will always be more than you ever dreamed of if you remain patient. Don't lose hope. Darating ang time, ibibigay din sa 'yo ni Lord and pinagdarasal mo," she said.

Gonzaga, who now has a 2-year-old son with Soriano, is not the only celebrity who has spoken up about her preference against pre-marital sex.

In photos, here are other personalities who vowed, at one point, to wait until marriage before having sex, and what they said about the decision at that time:

What she said: "There's no pre-marital sex. Gano'n talaga. No pre-marital sex, iyan 'yung clear na, 'No to it.' Kasi we want to honor marriage. Kasi, 'di ba, ang tagal-tagal kang prineserve ng mga magulang mo, nanay mo, papa mo. Lahat ng paggalit, pananakot para hindi ka lumabas ng bahay, pumarty, pero sa isang iglap, 'It's all gone, Ma.'"

"So, iyon 'yung sa amin, iyon 'yung boundary namin. Kasi once na nag-move ka na into physical intimacy, sobrang magbabago na 'yun. It's another level na you have to save. That's for me."

The "Hawak Kamay" hitmaker opened up about this "no-sex policy" during a January 2014 press conference. She was, at the time, seven months into her relationship with Yan Asuncion, who was then a worship director at a Christian church. They are each other's first official relationship. What she said: "O, sige, 'yan na ang kapintasan ko! Peope have said, 'Eh, kasi, lalaki. May pangangailangan.' My point exactly! See? Kung 'yan lang pala ang issue, [he didn't really deserve me]. Nobody told me to stay a virgin, or because I'm a stuck-up prude na holy-holy. It's my choice. I've always been ma-pride. If sex is something I value, [gano'n talaga]!"

The singer-actress spoke of her preference in July 2014 during a live interview on "Aquino & Abunda Tonight, a year after her controversial breakup with former boyfriend Billy Crawford.

The two are now respectively married — Gil with businessman BJ Albert, with whom she has a one-year-old; and Crawford with former "It's Showtime" co-host Coleen Garcia. Instagram: @nikkigil

What she said: "Wala nang lalaki na ganyan na mag-sa-sacrifice and 'yung rerespetuhin ka nang gano'n, iyong talagang papanindigan na, 'This is my stand, this is my principle.'"

"For me, marriage is sacred. Ngayon kasi, parang nagiging norm na lang, eh, sa tao na, 'Come on, let's do it.' Pero iba pa rin siguro 'yung pakiramdam pag ginawa mo siya after [getting married]."

The Miss Universe 2012 first runner-up opened up about her relationship with then-boyfriend Jaypee Santos in a joint interview on ANC's "Headstart" in December that year. The two were asked directly whether, as Christians, they agreed to not have sex before marriage.

At the time of the interview, Tugonon and Santos were eight months into their relationship. They broke up four months later in April 2013. Tugonon is now based in New York where she is pursuing a modeling career. Instagram: @tugononjanine

What she said: "Let it be known that I, Ardy Roberto aka Mr. Pogi, and I, Miriam Quiambao, aka Ms. U, vow before God to protect each other's purity from this day onwards until the day, by God's grace that we are wed. Therefore, we shall not engage in any act that shall ignite sexual desires or passions prematurely, such as passionate kissing (lips-to-lips), pheromone sniffing or foreplay."

"The only expressions of affection allowed are: kissing on the cheek, holding hands and hugging or 'akbay.' I, Ardy Roberto, promise to take the lead in this purity pledge and protect you, Miriam Quiambao, and your testimony. So help us God! In Jesus' name."

The Miss Universe 1999 runner-up revealed this "purity pledge" with her now-husband, Christian motivational speaker Ardy Roberto, shortly after they got engaged in October 2013.

They got married in March 2014. For both, it would become their second marriage. Roberto's first wife passed away in 2013, while Quiambao was divorced from her former husband Claudio Rondinelli, whom she married in 2004.

As of writing, Quiambao and Roberto are first-time expectant parents, via natural pregnancy — a milestone after having tried but failed to get pregnant, even through in vitro fertilization, for four years. They had also considered adopting again, at one point. (Roberto adopted their son, Joshua, during his last marriage with the late Tingting Roberto.) Instagram: @miriamq888/ Nice Print Photography
