MANILA - Maxine Medina may have failed to clinch the Miss Universe crown in 2016, but the showbiz newcomer appears to have a promising future in acting, at least to some viewers of the afternoon crime drama "Hanggang Saan".

The 27-year-old beauty queen recently joined the cast of the ABS-CBN teleserye as Atty. Georgette San Diego, one of the lawyers of Sonya (Sylvia Sanchez) who happens to be an ex-girlfriend of her client's son, Paco (Arjo Atayde).

Georgette's involvement with the mother and son becomes complicated, as she tries to tip-toe between staying professional and rekindling her relationship with Paco. He, however, has long moved on and makes clear to Georgette that they can only be friends -- a situation ripe for dramatic moments for Medina's character.

One such scene is Georgette's confrontation with Paco's new flame, Anna (Sue Ramirez). Doing away with the usual shouting match, Medina's character employs her wit and dignified stance as a trained lawyer in her passive-aggressive approach to her rival.

This facade Georgette lets go of in a later episode, where she is seen breaking down after accepting she no longer has a chance to get back together with Paco. (See the 2:25 mark of the video below.)

Medina's recent scenes have earned raves from viewers of "Hanggang Saan". Several comments on the official YouTube snippets go along the lines of this one example: "Nagulat ako, magaling pala si Maxine!"

"Hindi ka man nanalo sa Miss U at maraming tumuligsa sa 'yo, ang galing mo dito. Parang matagal na artista ka na," read another comment.

Others were surprised with Medina apparently having an easy time crying, and praised her "kontrabida" characterization of Georgette.

Medina follows the foot steps of numerous beauty queens who joined showbiz after their pageant careers. Recent newcomers include Mariel de Leon and Kylie Verzosa, and the returning Pia Wurtzbach, all of whom appeared in Metro Manila Film Festival entries last year.
