MANILA—In the weeks since the release of the teaser trailer for “Alone/Together”, fans have come up with theories to explain the apparent dark turn in the relationship between Raf (Enrique Gil) and Christine (Liza Soberano), from their sunnier college days.

At one point, the teaser for the Antoinette Jadaone film shows Christine, in all-black, telling Raf, “Alam mo, hindi ko talaga alam kung ano’ng nangyari,” prompting viewers to fill in the gaps with possible scenarios that led to Christine’s tearful line.

In a video promoting the February 13 release of “Alone/Together,” lead stars Soberano and Gil reacted to a number of these fan theories, but were notably cautious about giving any confirmation.

Among the theories were that Christine had imagined Raf all along, that Raf died after they graduated from college, and that the film, which had the working title “Spoliarium,” was inspired by the Juan Luna painting in that Raf figuratively dies in the real world (the gladiator), leaving Tin in tears (weeping woman).
