Liza Soberano may be widely considered as one of the most beautiful actresses in local showbiz today, but even she has some insecurities.
Soberano, in an interview with ABS-CBN News' MJ Felipe on Friday, acknowledged that she can relate to the image issues her character has in the upcoming romantic comedy "My Ex and Whys."
"Oo naman, all the time," she said after being asked if she has ever felt ugly. "To be honest, humans are never content with how they feel and there are some days when you just don't feel your best."
"Especially when I'm on my period. ...You feel bloated, and you just feel bad about yourself the whole time. I don't know why but girls are like that," she added.
In the movie, she plays Cali, whose boyfriend Gio (Enrique Gil) cheated on her. A trailer for the film went viral after Soberano, as her character, was seen confronting Gio over his other girls, saying: "Am I not enough? Pangit ba ako? Kapalit-palit ba ako?"
Many quipped that Soberano didn't quite fit the role of a hopeless romantic as she clearly has the looks that was once described by Pia Wurtzbach, Miss Universe 2015, as worthy of becoming a future title-holder.
"I saw the meme and nakakatuwa (sila)," Soberano said. "Out of all my lines, hindi ko naisip na iyon iyong magiging viral."
She added that the scene was one of the most emotionally heavy ones in the movie so she was surprised to learn that many of her fans were laughing when they watched it.
"All I have to say is that it is one of the most emotional scenes in the whole movie, and a lot of women who have been cheated on will be able to relate to that scene," she said.
Directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina, "My Ex and Whys" will premiere in cinemas nationwide on February 15. It is Star Cinema's Valentine's Day offering. It is also Gil and Soberano's third movie as a love team.
