MANILA - "Bride for Rent" continued its strong box office performance on Friday, as it crossed the P200-million milestone in nationwide earnings after only eight days in theaters, according to one of its lead stars.

The figure was announced Friday night by Kim Chiu, who portrays Rocky in the Star Cinema film. In a post on Instagram, the actress expressed gratitude to those who have already watched the movie.

"Maraming, maraming salamat po! Sobra! Thank you Papa God! Thank you sa lahat ng nanood. Sa lahat ng nakitawa and nakiyak sa amin, maraming, maraming, maraming salamat po," she said.

The eight-day take of "Bride for Rent" at the box office is impressive compared to Chiu's last film with onscreen partner Xian Lim, "Bakit Hindi Ka Crush Ng Crush Mo?", which took over two weeks to earn P100 million.

Similarly a romantic-comedy, "Bride for Rent" is directed by Mae Czarina Cruz and written by Carmi Raymundo. It also stars Pilita Corrales, Tirso Cruz III, Dennis Padilla, Matt Evans, Martin del Rosario, and Empoy.

The film centers on Rocky (Chiu), whose frantic search for a job leads her to an audition called by Rocco (Lim). He is looking for a woman to pretend to be his wife, in the hope of accessing his trust fund.

With the burden of preventing her family's eviction from their rented home, Rocky takes up the role which soon spirals into a long-term act.
