MANILA — The primetime comeback of Angel Locsin courted a bigger audience on its second day, defying expectations for debuting TV programs in its first week, and notably despite the emerging ubiquity of online streaming.
"The General's Daughter" registered a nationwide rating of 35.1% on January 22, an improvement over its pilot episode's already impressive 34%, according to Kantar Media.
It was once again the far-and-away No. 1 show in its time slot, with its rival program "Onanay" only garnering 14.3%.
An increase in viewership over a much-hyped maiden telecast is a feat for any show — an indication of sustaining audience's interest beyond the pre-debut promo blitz.
Interestingly in the case of "The General's Daughter," its television viewership thrived in spite, or perhaps because of its pilot being simulcast on ABS-CBN's online channels. It was streamed live on YouTube and Facebook, as well as on tfc.tv, and was uploaded shortly after on the Kapamilya network's streaming platform iWant.ph.
A Dreamscape production, "The General's Daughter" has been billed as "the biggest teleserye" of 2019, on top of being the much-awaited TV return of Locsin in a lead role.
