MANILA - Angelica Panganiban isn't one to shy away from giving advice on relationship problems, even if they have similarities to her own past situation.
In the latest episode of her YouTube series #AskAngelica, the 31-year-old actress was asked by guest co-host Donna Cariaga whether she would be willing to face the new partner of her ex-boyfriend, and how she would go about the meeting.
"Hindi ko alam, baka masaktan ko 'yun!" Panganiban said. "Kasi unang-una, hindi ako pinalitan. Pinilit, e. Pinilit sirain 'yung relasyon, kaya may galit."
When Cariaga said she would want to slap her ex-boyfriend's new partner, Panganiban agreed that it would feel satisfying, but followed up with a serious answer.
"Masama 'yun. Huwag tayo lumebel sa kanila, kasi mas mataas tayo doon. Huwag natin ibaba ang sarili natin," she said.
Panganiban did not give further details as to how this applied in her personal life. The "Dalawang Mrs. Reyes" star, however, has made no secret of a recent heartbreak over a failed relationship -- a topic that frequently comes up in her interviews.
With a 25-year career in front of the camera, Panganiban has been open about her relationships. Three of her past boyfriends include fellow film stars Carlo Aquino, Derek Ramsay, and John Lloyd Cruz.
Cruz was briefly alluded to in Panganiban's latest YouTube episode, viewers observed, when the "three-month rule" was brought up by Cariaga.
The "It's Showtime" comedienne was left speechless when Panganiban, apparently recalling a famous scene of Cruz, asked Cariaga to name specifically where she learned that "rule" from.
The "three-month rule," which says one can only start seeing someone new three months after a breakup, was a plot point in the iconic film "One More Chance." That movie starred Cruz as the broken-hearted Popoy, opposite Bea Alonzo's Basha.
In another apparent hint at her past experience, Panganiban, in the video, comically dropped her cue cards when she read a fan's question about becoming pregnant.
This, fans mused in the comments, was alluding to reports of Cruz supposedly expecting a child with his current girlfriend, actress Ellen Adarna.
Despite repeated hints at her heartbreak -- in this video and in recent interviews -- Panganiban appeared confident about having moved on, as she gave another fan advice about "breaking down" every time she sees her ex-boyfriend.
"OK lang umiyak. I-embrace mo 'yan," Panganiban said. "Hindi masamang masaktan, hindi masamang maging malungkot o tamaan sa mga nakikita mo at nababalitan mo. Iiyak mo 'yan. Mapapagod din, mauubos din ang luha mo. Tapos doon mo maiisip, 'Ay, hindi na ako naiiyak.'"
"Ako nga minsan, kahit anong pilit ko -- 'Nakakalungkot naman -- hindi ako maiyak. Ibig sabihin, wala na, hindi na," she said.
