'Bride for Rent' stars Xian Lim and Kim Chiu. Star Cinema
MANILA -- "Bride for Rent," the second team-up of Kim Chiu and Xian Lim on the big screen, continued its strong performance at the box office on Saturday, as it hit the P100-million mark after only four days in theaters.
The figure was announced Saturday night by Star Cinema executive Roxy Liquigan, who noted that the feat was impressive considering the movie's January playdate.
To compare, Chiu and Lim's last film, "Bakit Hindi Ka Crush ng Crush Mo?" in 2013, took over two weeks to earn P100 million.
Similarly a romantic-comedy, "Bride for Rent" is directed by Mae Czarina Cruz and written by Carmi Raymundo.
In the film, Chiu portrays Rocky, whose frantic search for a job leads her to an audition called by Rocco (Lim). He is looking for a woman to pretend to be his wife, in the hope of accessing his trust fund.
With the burden of preventing her family's eviction from their rented home, Rocky takes up the role which soon spirals into a long-term act.
The film also stars Pilita Corrales, Tirso Cruz III, Dennis Padilla, Matt Evans, Martin del Rosario, and Empoy.
"Sobra kaming thankful and we're so happy na maraming nanood on its first day, and sana marami pang manood," Chiu told ABS-CBNnews.com on Thursday, when asked for her reaction to the film's first-day earning of P21.2 million.
"And not just sa mga fans namin, kundi sa mga normal moviegoers, maraming salamat. Nanood talaga sila ng movie, at kahit 'yung mga hindi nanonood ng Tagalog movies, nanood sila this time. So we're so happy, and so thankful!"
