MANILA — Four years since its original release, “Tala” is shining brighter than ever as it entered an international chart tallied by Billboard on Friday.
On its social media channels, Billboard announced “Tala” as a debuting track in the World Digital Song Sales chart, for the week of January 18.
The Sarah Geronimo single entered on the 12th spot, ranking among tracks from the likes of Red Velvet, BTS, and Blackpink.
The World Digital Song Sales chart is said to rank best-selling international singles in the United States.
Written by Nica del Rosario and Emmanuel Sambayan, “Tala” was originally released in January 2016, and at the time was already a big hit.
The dance tune had a resurgence in 2019, with Geronimo crediting drag performances and her LGBT fans for its enduring popularity.
“Tala” became a ubiquitous craze in the latter part of the year as viral videos of dance covers dominated social media.
The Internet fad culminated in the televised “Tala Nation” in January, featuring Geronimo herself. It also spawned an updated version of the track from the pop superstar.
