Bela Padilla and JC Santos reunite on the big screen via ‘Of Vodka, Beers, and Regrets.’ Viva Films

MANILA — Across two films and a TV drama, the onscreen pairing of JC Santos and Bela Padilla has gained a reputation as a heartbreaker.

And they’re looking to build on that with their latest offering on the big screen.

Santos and Padilla co-star anew in Viva Films’ “On Vodka, Beers, and Regrets,” written and directed by Irene Villamor (“Sid and Aya: Not A Love Story,” “Ulan”).

It marks the actors’ fourth major team-up, after “100 Tula Para Kay Stella,” “The Day After Valentine’s,” and an episode of “Maalaala Mo Kaya.”

“Naubos na po ‘yung ilangan namin. Wala na po,” Santos said of his leading lady, during a press conference held Thursday ahead of the film’s February 5 release.

“Kumbaga, ang gagawin na lang po namin talaga is i-serve ‘yung script ni Direk Irene. Bukod doon sa script ni Direk Irene, hahayaan na lang niya kami ni Bela. Umabot na kami doon sa ganoong working level, na kahit wala na kaming script at magkasama kami, basta alam namin ‘yung parameters, game na,” he explained.

Padilla agreed, pointing out that both Santos and Villamor are dear friends whom she frequently sees outside of work.

“Ako, siyempre, sana kung puwedeng maya’t maya gumawa ka ng trabaho with friends, it’s always easier. Dahil sobrang komportable niyo sa isa’t isa, makakapaglaro ka nang husto, o iyong dapat black and white lang, nagiging makulay na,” she said.

“On Vodka, Beers, and Regrets” sees Padilla as Jane, an actress recovering from a scandal, and Santos as a musician with whom she starts a complicated relationship, going by the film’s trailer.

The romance, which starts on a drunken night at a bar, appears to be turning serious, until Jane dismisses the relationship as “playtime” when a man from her past (Matteo Guidicelli) returns.

Asked what to expect from their latest collaboration, given their track record of making people cry, Padilla said: “Feeling ko, ‘yung tandem namin ni JC, ‘yung sakit niya, parang napapa-tattoo, balik ka nang balik. Alam ko, ganoon ‘yung pain na sini-serve namin palagi.”

Santos echoed Padilla’s sentiment, saying: Lagi silang nakakaramdam ng sakit, ng hapdi every time nanonood sila ng pelikula namin ni Bela. Ito na. Ito na ‘yung pinakamasakit.”
