'Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin' sets box office record 1

MANILA -- The 2014 Metro Manila Film Festival top money-maker "The Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin" is now the highest grossing Filipino film of all time.

The movie's star, comedian Vice Ganda, made the announcement on the noontime show "It's Showtime" on Friday, as he congratulated director Wenn Deramas, as well as Star Cinema and Viva Films, which co-produced the comedy flick.

According to Vice Ganda, the feat was accomplished on Thursday, which was declared a special holiday in Metro Manila because of the arrival of Pope Francis.

"Na break na ng 'The Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin' ang record ng 'Girl Boy Bakla Tomboy.' Ang saya!" the comedian-host said.

"Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy," an entry to the 2013 MMFF, used to hold the all-time box-office record. Also directed by Deramas, the film about four siblings of both sexes and different sexual orientations grossed P456 million during its run.

"'Yun 'yung nakakatuwa natatalo ko. Una yung 'Praybeyt Benjamin,' tinalo ng 'Sisterakas,' tapos tinalo ng 'Girl Boy,' tapos ngayon tinalo ng 'The Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin,'" he said.

"The Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin" also starred Alex Gonzaga, Richard Yap and James "Bimby" Yap Jr.
