MANILA – A summer edition of the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) will kick off this coming April.
It will feature eight official entries to be chosen by the same MMFF selection committee. The films will be shown in theaters nationwide during its 11-day run.
The festival will begin on April 11 until April 21, and just like the annual MMFF, there will also be a Parade of Stars on April 5, and an awards night on April 15.
Producers who wish to participate in the festival may submit finished film entries for the full-length category until February 15.
“We are hoping na sana makatulong ulit sa industriya. We are not expecting P1 billion [in terms of gross sales] pero at least kalahati, P500 million. It will really help the industry ng pelikulang Pilipino. 'Yun naman ang purpose natin sa talaga sa MMFF, to help the industry,” said MMDA general manager Jojo Garcia.
The Metro Manila Summer Film Festival was proposed by Senator Bong Go, one of the newest members of the MMFF Executive Committee.
In an interview last December, Go told reporters that having a second MMFF in a year will ideally provide promising entries with more chances of being shown in cinemas.
"Iyong mga hindi po napasok dito [MMFF 2019], may pagkakataon kayo sa summer festival," he promised.
The MMFF is traditionally held once a year, from December 25 to the first week of January. During the period, only the chosen MMFF entries are allowed to be shown in local cinemas.
