MANILA -- The new ABS-CBN sitcom starring John Lloyd Cruz and Toni Gonzaga debuted strongly last Sunday, toppling its rival program on GMA-7 in nationwide ratings.
According to data from multi-national market research group Kantar Media, "Home Sweetie Home" registered 19.9% in national TV ratings, beating "Pepito Manaloto: Ang Tunay na Kwento" by 2.2 percentage points.
The ABS-CBN series' debut rating made it the No. 1 most watched TV program across urban and rural areas on January 5, while "Pepito" was ranked third.
Kantar Media uses a nationwide panel size of 2,609 urban and rural homes, representing 100% of the total Philippine TV viewing population.
The pilot episode of "Home Sweetie Home" traced the love story of Romy (Cruz) and Julie (Gonzaga) before getting married and sharing a home with their respective families.
A medical representative, Romy is assigned on a medical mission at the school where Julie teaches. The two are immediately attracted to each other and agree to go on a date.
It doesn't take long before they get married, but honeymoon bliss eludes the couple as their families bicker when Julie's mom (Sandy Andolong) and two siblings (Miles Ocampo, Clarence Delgado) move in with Romy and his father (Rico J. Puno).
Also part of the cast of "Home Sweetie Home" are Jason Gainza as Julie's admirer, Joross Gamboa and Ketchup Eusebio as Romy's friends, and Eda Nolan as Julie's confidant.
"Home Sweetie Home," which marks the second team-up of Cruz and Gonzaga after the 2010 blockbuster movie "My Amnesia Girl," airs Sundays after the kiddie gag show "Goin' Bulilit."
