MANILA — Talent manager Ogie Diaz credits his ward, actress Liza Soberano, as instrumental in saving his daughter’s life after the latter was born premature four years ago.

Diaz shared that detail of his personal life on January 4, as he paid tribute to Soberano on the occasion of her 23rd birthday.

Noon pa, kahit kanino, ipinagmamalaki kong nabuhay ang anak kong premature (25 weeks) — dahil kay Liza,” he wrote on Facebook.

Diaz and his wife Georgette welcomed Meerah, their fifth daughter, on February 9, 2017. Due to her condition, Meerah was confined in the neonatal intensive care unit.

Confinement in the NICU cost nearly P30,000 a day, Diaz recalled.

“Basta. Ang bait talaga ni Lord. Never Niya akong zinero balance sa banko.

At the time, Soberano had been Diaz’s talent for six years since 2011, when he first scouted her at the age of 13. Soberano got her big break in showbiz in 2014, when she was cast opposite her now-boyfriend Enrique Gil in the hit drama “Forevermore.”

In 2017, Meerah’s birth year, Soberano’s career had been steadily soaring with consecutive endorsement deals, aside from her TV and film projects under ABS-CBN.

In his Facebook post, Diaz revealed that Soberano’s contract with him will expire in 2022.

Wa echos ‘to, ha?

“Pasasalamat. Dahil ‘yun ang tama. At ‘yun ang laman ng puso ko.”

Addressing his ward and greeting her on her birthday, Diaz wrote, “Hangad ko ang kaligayahan ng puso mo kay Enrique Gil, kalusugan mo at alam mo 'yan — babawi tayo ngayong 2021.”

“At lagi mong tatandaan, anak, nandito lang ako bilang pangalawang tatay mo. Love you, ‘nak!”
