The much-anticipated, weeks-long Miss Universe pageant will begin with the candidates catching a trip to Boracay on January 14, said Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo on Wednesday.
Teo announced the final 16-day itinerary of the international beauty contest after meeting with pageant organizers and private partners.
After Boracay, the candidates will travel to Vigan for a terno fashion show on January 15. It will be followed by stops in Manila (January 16), a visit to the oldest city of Cebu (January 17), a strawberry-picking event in Baguio (January 18), Davao (January 19), and a beachwear photoshoot in Batangas (January 19).
The candidates will also pay President Rodrigo Duterte a courtesy call on January 23 before the grand coronation night to be held at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City on January 30.
Other planned events in Albay and Iloilo events have been cancelled, Teo confirmed, due to the effects of typhoon Nina and schedule conflicts, respectively.
The candidates are expected to start arriving in the country starting January 12.
Meanwhile, tourism undersecretary Kat de Castro revealed that plus-sized model Ashley Graham will be the backstage anchor for this year's pageant. She confirmed that main host Steve Harvey will arrive on January 22.
