Filipino companies gobble up the world with chips, burgers, spirits

MANILA – Snack food giant Universal Robina Corp.’s acquisition of Australia’s second-largest salty chips maker, announced on Wednesday, adds to an unprecedented string of acquisitions of foreign companies by Philippine firms. 

Buoyed by the strength of one of Asia’s fastest-growing economies and aided by low borrowing costs, Filipino companies have set their sights abroad for growth.
