MANILA -- Personnel of the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) will still have their jobs once the government turns over the operations and maintenance of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), the Department of Transportation said.

Transportation chief Jaime Bautista said this was agreed on by the department and San Miguel Corporation - SAP.

"Part of the concession agreement is for the concessionaire to offer positions to existing employees of Manila International Airport Authority," Sec. Bautista said during the agency's 42nd anniversary on Friday.

"Be it regular employees, contract of service or job order. Ibig sabihin, walang mawawalan ng trabaho dito," added Sec. Bautista.

The San Miguel group earlier won the bidding for the rehabilitation project worth around P170 billion.

MIAA employees earlier raised concerns over losing their jobs due to the rehabilitation projects.

The group Samahang Manggagawa sa Paliparan ng Pilipinas earlier warned job loss during the project, adding that there was no guarantee they would be given the right benefits.

DOTr also urged the consortium to give airport workers pay hikes and better terms as it takes over NAIA.
