MANILA - DITO Telecommunity is offering an unlimited prepaid broadband service with internet speeds of up to 100 megabits per second (Mbps) using what it described as the country's first "true 5G" system.

The Philippines' third major telco said its DITO Home WOWFi is the first 5G RedCap technology Wi-Fi in the world for home usage.

“5G RedCap is a new 5G standard and critical evolution of 5G originally called NR-Light, an important part of lightweight 5G. This kind of technology only operates on 5G Standalone (SA) networks, the "true 5G," offering high capacity, maximum quality, and lower latency compared to 5G Non-Standalone (NSA) networks that rely on existing 4G infrastructures,” DITO said in a statement.

The telco said subscribers to the service need to buy a P1,990 starter kit which comes with complimentary unlimited 5G data and 50GB 4G data for 30 days. A monthly fee of P790 applies in the succeeding months, which comes with unlimited 5G and a bonus 50 gigabytes of 4G in areas covered by 4G, DITO said.

The starter kit can be bought at the DITO Home WOWFi at DITO e-Shop, DITO Experience Stores, Device Retail Partners, Sales Blitzes, and DITO official stores in Shopee, Lazada, and TikTok.

The company said the service is also suitable for underserved areas where wired connections are no longer feasible.

DITO recently completed its fifth and last technical audit, where it reported having a nationwide coverage of 86.3 percent, and a minimum average broadband speed of 92.87 Mbps for 4G. It also reported a minimum speed of 597.7 Mbps for 5G.

As part of its contract to be the third major telco, DITO promised to deliver 84.01 percent national coverage and 55Mbps minimum average broadband speed in the fifth year of its commitment period.

DITO Telecommunity has announced it has recorded 13 million subscribers as of October this year. Company CEO Eric Alberto said this means they have a 12 percent market share.

Alberto said their entry to the market has challenged the duopoly of Globe and Smart and has improved overall telco services because of competition. Prices, he said, also went down.

The company's parent, DITO CME Holdings plans to hold a P4.2 billion follow-on offering in November to fund the telco's operations and expansion plans.

In a disclosure to the stock exchange on Oct. 10, DITO CME said it plans to hold the offering tentatively on the last week of November, with the listing of the shares on the first week of December.

The follow-on will be for 1.95 billion primary common shares at a price range of P1.00 to P2.15 based on a preliminary offer sheet, DITO CME confirmed.

The follow-on was originally set to run from Sept. 26 to Oct. 2.
