MANILA -- Globe Telecom said Sunday it has restored services in the tourist island Boracay after it was lashed by Typhoon Ursula (Phanfone), which struck on Christmas Day and killed at least 41 people.

The Ayala-owned telco said it has "fired up" cell sites in Masbate, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Romblon, Sorsogon, Aklan, Antique, Biliran, Bohol, Capiz, Cebu, Eastern Samar, Iloilo, Tacloban, Leyte, Northern Samar, Ormoc, Panay, Roxas, Southern Leyte and Western Samar.

More free charging stations and free call sites were deployed in Cebu, Occidental Mindoro, Capiz, Leyte, Aklan, Northern Iloilo and Eastern Samar, it added.

Widespread commercial power outages, multiple fiber cuts due to poles being toppled down by strong winds caused service disruptions, Globe said.
