MANILA - Globe Telecom on Wednesday informed its customers that mobile and internet services in some parts of Visayas and southern Luzon are unavailable due to damage brought by typhoon Ursula.

Among the areas heavily impacted are eastern and western Samar, Leyte, Capiz, Aklan (including Boracay), and Roxas.

Globe also said their personnel are doing their best to accelerate the restoration of services.

"We apologize for the inconvenience that the temporary service disruptions have brought to our customers in these areas," it said in a statement.

"We join the nation in prayer for the people and families affected especially on this Christmas Day," Globe added.

Ursula pummeled central Philippines on Christmas Day, bringing a wet and miserable holiday season to millions in the mainly Catholic nation.

Thousands were stranded at shuttered ports or evacuation centers at the height of the festive season on Wednesday, and residents cowered in rain-soaked homes as Ursula leapt from one small island to another for the second day.

The typhoon toppled houses and trees and blacked out cities in the Philippines' most storm-prone region, but no deaths were reported. - with Agence France-Presse
