MANILA - The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will be looking into the fire incident in a shopping mall in Davao City that resulted to 37 deaths.
Secretary Silvestre Bello said he has ordered officers of the Occupational Safety and Health Center in Davao to look into possible violations of the NCC mall.
"The findings of the investigation shall be submitted directly to me for purposes of determining responsibility and for appropriate legal action," he said in a statement Monday.
Authorities have already recovered 37 bodies from the building.
Inspector Ezekiel Tabon, chief of operations of the Davao City Fire District, said the bodies were beyond recognition.
According to Bello, he has also instructed local DOLE officials to provide assistance to the affected workers. He assured that the employment assistance will be for a period of one month.
"Depending on the assessment of our regional office, we will look into other means by which DOLE can extend further assistance to the victims of the tragic incident," he said.
