CEBU CITY -- Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña on Sunday said he will help motorcycle taxi drivers after the Supreme Court declared motorcycle ride-hailing firm Angkas illegal.
Around 7,000 Angkas and habal-habal drivers gathered for a thanksgiving mass organized by the city government.
After the mass, Osmeña talked with the drivers and promised to help them.
The city government will also give one sack of rice to each driver.
Osmeña also plans to file a petition to the Supreme Court to lift the order.
He also expressed concern for passengers from mountain barangays of Cebu City who depend on habal-habal as their mode of transportation.
The drivers are also urging the Supreme Court to reconsider the ruling for them to continue supporting their families.
