US gov't helps women entrepreneurs

Cupcake Collection owner and founder Mignon Francois built her business from a mere $5 million capital to a $10-million venture, showing how women can thrive as entrepreneurs.

The number of businesses in the US that are run by women has grown 35 percent from the 1970s, "but there's still room for growth," said Bruce Purdy a deputy administrator with the US government's Office of Women's Business Ownership.

In the Philippines, there are 307,236 women owned micro, small and medium enterprises while women account for 38 percent of leadership in corporations.
