MANILA, Philippines - The European Union is set to decide tonight if the Philippines will enjoy zero tariffs on its exports to EU member countries.

In February, the Philippines applied for a program called "General System on Preferences Plus".

Under the program, exporters will enjoy zero tariffs for over 6,000 products from the current 2,000.

The European Commission earlier said it had no objection to the proposal, but set a December 18 deadline for its final decision.

The Philippine government said exporters of food, textiles and garments and other chemical products are among the sectors that would benefit the most from GSP Plus. - ANC
