Shell says Valenzuela station negative for methanol

MANILA – Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corp. on Friday refuted reports that traces of the corrosive chemical methanol were found in one of its pump stations.

Citing a test by the Department of Energy, Shell told the stock exchange that its Marulas, Valenzuela tested negative for the substance.

Gasoline with methanol, also known as methyl alcohol or wood alcohol, may cause corrosion in engines. Methanol is a toxic substance that is commonly used as an industrial solvent or pesticide.
