MANILA – The Department of Transportation should resolve the regulation issues concerning the use of the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) or else the Senate Committee on Public Services might consider filing a case against them, Senator Grace Poe said Friday.
Poe slammed the agency for “changing the rules” by exempting 195 provincial buses from an earlier order directing all PUVs coming from the South to end services at the terminal.
Small bus operators claimed that the DOTr favored big firms by granting the exemptions.
“Ang gagawin ko rin pag nakita natin na hindi man lang susubukan ng DOTr na gawin 'yan, s'yempre kailangan magsampa ng kaso laban sa kanila,” Poe, who chairs the Senate Committee on Public Services, told DZMM radio.
(If we see that they won't even try, of course we need to file a case against them)
Poe said a DOTr Undersecretary was also filmed berating bus drivers during what was supposed to be a consultation. The senator did not name the said official.
“May video kami kung saan ang isang Usec. ng DOTr hinarap ang mga bus drivers at pinagmumura sila. Ang sinasabi 'Kayo wala kayong ginawa kundi magsumbong sa media.' Parang ganon. Hindi naman dapat ganon ang pakikitungo sa ating mga kababayan,” Poe said.
Poe said the agency also failed to use its allocation for pertinent transport programs, utilizing only about 25 percent of its total budget.
The PITX, meant to decongest EDSA, was inaugurated by President Rodrigo Duterte last Nov. 5.
