MANILA -- Motorcycle taxi-hailing platform Angkas said Wednesday it was seeking an extension of its pilot run that would end in 2 weeks, as it sought to address safety concerns.
Angkas has a 99.997 percent "safety record" during the 6-month long test run that will end on Dec. 26, said its chief transport advocate, George Royeca.
The platform is "working hard" with regulators, building a medical response team and addressing concerns on passenger insurance, Royeca told ANC's Market Edge.
"We hope there will be no disruptions to service," Royeca said. Christmas season demand is higher, especially during the morning and evening rush hours, he said.
Angkas welcomes the entry of rival motor taxi-hailing firms, which will underscore the need for regulators to recognize them.
"It has become more of an advocacy to us more than a business," he said.
