City of Dreams Manila set for soft opening this weekend

MANILA, Philippines - City of Dreams Manila is set to start operations this weekend.

In a disclosure to the stock exchange, Melco Crown (Philippines) Resorts Corporation said it has received the notice to commence casino operations from the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) for City of Dreams Manila.

"City of Dreams Manila will commence operations on 14 December 2014, with a grand opening of the integrated resort planned before Chinese New Year in 2015," the company said.

The Philippine Daily Inquirer's Biz Buzz column reported that the schedule for the casino's soft opening is exactly at 2:38 p.m., December 14. The time and date was apparently picked by a Hong Kong-based feng shui master.

City of Dreams Manila's grand opening is slated before the Chinese New Year which falls on February 19, 2015.

The casino-resort is is being developed by the Philippine unit of Macau-based Melco Crown and Sy group's Premium Leisure Corp.

City of Dreams Manila is set to become the second casino-resort to open in Pagcor's Entertainment City in Paranaque City. It will have three hotels -- Crown Towers hotel, Nobu Hotel and a Hyatt hotel, as well as ultra-luxe nightclubs Pangaea and Chaos.

Entertainment City is envisioned as Manila's version of the Las Vegas Strip. Solaire Casino & Resort is already open, while Bayshore City Resorts World of Andrew Tan's Travellers International Hotel Group and Manila Bay Resorts of Japanese billionaire Kazuo Okada are also being developed.
