MANILA - The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) said power rates are set to go up again this month by P0.055 per kilowatt hour (kWh).
For a typical household consuming 200 kilowatt hours, electricity bills will go up by P11; P16.50 for households consuming 300 kWh; P22 for households consuming 400 kWh; and P27.50 for households consuming 500 kWh.
Meralco said the rate hike is due to the increase in the number of plant outages last month.
Meralco spokesman Joe Zaldarriaga said December's generation charge of P8.60/kWh is still lower than the P9.87/kWh in December 2014.
Meanwhile, Meralco announced that more appliances will bear the "orange tag," which aims to help consumers save energy by indicating the energy consumption of an appliance.
The firm's energy consumption tag complements the yellow tag used by the Department of Energy.
Meralco said the tag will help consumers in buying energy efficient appliances for their homes or for gifts this Christmas season. -- Report from Alvin Elchico, ABS-CBN News
