Globe close to fully restoring Ruby-affected sites in Visayas

MANILA (UPDATE) – Globe Telecom said it is now approaching completion of its restoration efforts in Visayas.

"We are now approaching full restoration of cell sites impacted by Typhoon Ruby and in fact, we may restore a good number of our sites in Eastern Samar within the day," Globe Senior Vice President for Corporate Communications Yoly Crisanto said.

On Tuesday, Globe said it has restored its mobile coverage in Borongan, Eastern Samar, one of the areas hardest hit by Typhoon Ruby. Service was restored in the area at around 3:30 p.m., and immediately triggered voice traffic.

“This follows intensified efforts of the telecommunications provider’s network operations team to fire up a base station controller located in Gigoso in Giporlos, Eastern Samar. More sites are expected to become operational with the restoration of the base controller in Gigoso,” Globe said in a statement.

The base controller in Gigoso provides mobile coverage in Eastern Samar, particularly the municipalities of Borongan, Can-avid, Dolores, Eduard, Gamay, Hernani, Canceledes, Sulat, Julian, Lapinig, Lloren, Luis, Mabuta, McArthur, Maydolong, Mapanas, Oras, Salcedo, San Policarpio, Sulat, Taft, Balangkayan and Giporlos.

In Eastern Visayas, Globe said mobile coverage has been restored in the towns of  Guiuan, Hernani, Julita and Salcedo in Eastern Samar;  Abuyog, Albuera, Barugo, Capoocan, Carigara, Isabel, Kananga, La Paz, Mahaplag, Matag-ob, Padre Burgos, Palo, Palompon, Saint Bernard, Tabontabon, Tanauan, Leyte  and Ormoc and Tacloban Cities in Leyte.
 
Globe also has restored mobile coverage in the towns of Allen, Catarman, Las Navas, Mondragon, Catubig, Palapag, Pambujan, San Roque, and San Isidro in Northern Samar;  the towns of Anahawan, Hinunangan, Hinundayan, Macrohon, San Ricardo, Silago, Sogod, Tomas Oppus and Maasin City in Southern Leyte; Calbayog City, Pansanghan, Tagapul-an in Western Samar; and Culaba in Biliran.
 
In Cebu, Globe already achieved full restoration of telecommunication services Daanbantayan, Danao City, Lapu-Lapu City, Madrilejos, Medellin, Pilar, Poro, Bogo City, San Franscisco, Consolacion and Tabogon.  Globe also has restored all sites in Pontevedra, President Roxas, Sapian, Altavas, Ivisan, Mabusao, Roxas City in Capiz; Monreal, San Fernando, San Jacinto in Masbate, Bachawan, Espana, San Agustin, Santa Maria, Cambalo, Cajidiocan Marigondon, Azarga, Cambijang, Bagacay, Magdiwang, Sablayan, Tobigon, Hinagungan in Romblon; Buruanga, New Washington and Kalibo in Aklan.
 
The firm earlier said its operations did not suffer "catastrophic outages," but service disruptions were caused by outages of commercial power and misalignment of antennas due to strong winds.
