MANILA -- ABS-CBN said sales of its digital television box, TVplus, reached 8.9 million units in November as the country's largest media and entertainment network proceeded with its digital shift.
The penetration of digital terrestrial television or DTT among homes without cable TV in Metro Manila grew to 81 percent in November from 72 percent in August 2018, ABS-CBN said, citing Kantar data.
During the same period, penetration grew to 75 percent from 65 percent in Mega Manila and to 69 percent from 57 percent in the suburbs, ABS-CBN said.
"With the rapid rise of TVplus in homes nationwide, digital TV is fast becoming the standard in television viewing in the Philippines," said ABS-CBN head of access Charles Lim.
In June this year, ABS-CBN introduced ABS-CBN TVplus Go, which allows users to stream ABS-CBN content on their Android phones without an internet connection.
ABS-CBN TVplus covers 16 areas including 16 coverage areas including Metro Manila, Bulacan, Batangas, Nueva Ecija, Pangasinan, Rizal, Laguna, Pampanga, Tarlac, Benguet, Cavite, Metro Cebu, Cagayan De Oro, Iloilo, Bacolod, and Davao.
Also in 2019, ABS-CBN TVplus added more public service features including alerts from weather bureau PAGASA, the Metro Manila Development Authority and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council. The TrabaHanap feature broadcasts job alerts.
