MANILA – The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has shut down two hardware stores in Batangas due to tax violations.

King Leopard Hardware and Trading in Poblacion IV, Bauan and Peony Anne Hardware and Trading in Brgy. Gulod, Calatagan have been allegedly issuing unregistered receipts in violation of the Tax Code and penalized under Section 115.

The two establishments, both reportedly owned and operated by a certain Myriam Mendoza, were padlocked by the BIR through the Regional Investigation Division of Revenue Region No. 9, San Pablo City on November 21.

The stores were closed after the owner failed to comply with the requirements specified in the 48-hour Notices and the 5-day VAT Compliance Notices and were implemented through two separate Closure Orders signed by BIR Deputy Commissioner for the Operations Group Nelson Aspe.
RID Chief Lourdes Geocaniga said the closure was recommended after the establishments failed to rectify their violations despite the service of the required notices.

The recommendation was concurred by the Regional Review Board of Revenue Region No. 9, San Pablo City headed by Regional Director Jose Tan.
