MANILA – Pilipinas Shell said Monday it was hoping the government would extend its contract to run the Malampaya deep-water natural gas project after its contract expires in 2024.

The firm’s interest in running the facility that powers 30 percent of Luzon “remains very high,” Pilipinas Shell country head Cesar Romero told ANC.

"We demonstrated that we are a responsible operator and the country has benefited from the operations so we are really hopeful the government would allow us to continue operations in 2024,” Romero said.

“It’s a very technical asset, it’s a deep water facility and therefore were hoping that our experience in deep water technology and proven track record on performance over the last 20 years will be taken into consideration when the government decides on the contract extension,” he said.
