MANILA, Philippines - The Cheese Steak Shop Philippines, Inc. is planning to go on an expansion mode next year.
The firm will open two to three stores in Manila next year where it can serve "real Philly" cheese steak sandwiches to Filipino consumers.
Margaret Uy, head of the Cheese Steak Shop Philippines, Inc., said the company is now assessing possible sites where it could set up shop.
"We're looking at a site in Greenhills. We may open two to three stores next year," said Uy.
Cheese Steak Shop Philippines, Inc. is the exclusive franchiser in the country of the California-based The Cheese Steak Shop. Last week, the company formally opened its first store in Makati City.
Cheese Steak Franchise Corp. noted that the Philippine store is the company's first outside of the United States. Steve Oakes, president of Cheese Steak Franchise Corp., noted that the firm currently has 30 stores.
Oakes noted that the company is looking at opening more stores outside the United States where it is headquartered.
The company sells about 5,000 cheese steak sandwiches per store per month or around 2 million real Philly cheese steak sandwiches for all US stores per year.
The first Cheese Steak Shop was opened in 1982 on Divisadero St., in San Francisco, California by Keith Ayton, a chef by trade and a native of Philadelphia, who relocated to San Francisco from Coatesville, Pennsylvania.
