MANILA - The House of Representatives on Monday extended the validity of the 2018 national budget until Dec. 31, 2019.
Extending the validity of the 2018 budget will give the government flexibility to execute projects that are still unimplemented.
In the past, the national budget had a multi-year validity to allow the government to implement projects in the succeeding year to accommodate delays in the procurement process.
The House Joint Resolution 32 was approved on its 3rd and final reading during the plenary held Monday. The measure will then be submitted to the Senate.
The extension of validity is different from a re-enacted budget which will be the case if the government fails to pass a 2019 budget by year end.
The House approved the P3.757-trillion national budget last Nov. 20, ahead of its self-imposed Nov. 28 deadline.
