MANILA - Senate Public Services Committee chair Sen. Grace Poe called on the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Monday to fast track the completion of the transportation master plan, noting it was supposed to be finished last August.

“I hope that with any infrastructure project or any project that has to do with easing congestion, you can prioritize it; we don’t need special powers for NEDA to work quickly,so I appeal to you to please prioritize it,” Poe said deliberations for the agency’s proposed P10.66-billion budget for 2020.

NEDA said the master plan will be completed in the 3rd quarter of next year, pending completion of a Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) study.

Poe, meantime, questioned why the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) expansion project has not yet started, noting that the new technology proposal from the new consortium was made 2 years back.

NEDA says matter just awaiting approval from its board.

“Medyo stringent po review nila,” said Senate Finance Committee chair Sen. Sonny Angara.

The country’s seven largest conglomerates have banded together as a “super consortium” with an unsolicited offer to upgrade the congested airport.

Project cost is at P350-billion, covering two phases: expansion of the current passenger terminals; and construction of a new runway and integrated hub.
