MANILA - Chinese upstart OnePlus on Friday unveiled the 5T, its first near bezel-less phone with a price tag that is roughly half the asking price of top tier offerings from Apple and Samsung.
Shenzhen-based OnePlus has built a steady following among tech fans for offering flagship internals at a mid-range price.
The $499 (P25,318) OnePlus 5T retains almost the exact shell of the OnePlus 5 released earlier this year, except that the screen was supersized to 6 inches from 5.5 inches, according to its website.
The handset has the same 18:9 display ratio as the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, S8 and S8 Plus, the iPhone X and the recently announced Huawei Mate 10 Pro.
The 5T also has the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor used on Samsung's newest Note and S series handset.
Like the Note 8, iPhone X and iPhone 8 Plus, the 5T comes with a dual camera that is tuned for better low-light photography. Dual lens set ups from Apple and Samsung enable optical zoom while Huawei's, engineered with camera-maker Leica, combines color and monochrome.
The 5T, however cuts corners on the display, which is not quad HD. It is also not advertised as water or dust resistant. It also doesn't support wireless charging.
One Plus phones are officially available in the Philippines.
