MANILA - Philippine Airlines was named as world's most improved airline for 2018 by the Australia-based airline review firm AirlineRatings.Com.
The review body lauded PAL for its efforts to upgrade its aircraft and service.
“A move to expand its global footprint using new generation fuel-efficient aircraft equipped with the latest cabins makes Philippine Airlines a worthy winner of the 2019 Most Improved Airline,” said website editor-in-chief Geoffrey Thomas.
Singapore Airline meanwhile was named as the world's best airline, edging out Air New Zealand, Qantas Airways, and Qatar Airways.
AirlineRatings.Com took note of PAL's 16-hour nonstop route from Manila to New York City, which is one of the longest flights in the world.
"The world is taking notice of the continuing transformation of Philippine Airlines", said PAL president and COO Jaime Bautista in a statement.
Malaysia's AirAsia and its partner AirAsia X meanwhile were named as the best low-cost carriers for the Asia-Pacific region.
