MANILA - Representatives of disqualified third telecommunications bidder PT&T on Friday filed before the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) a motion for reconsideration formally questioning the decision of the selection committee during the review held last Nov. 7.

PT&T hopes the MR would compel the selection committee to further review their bid documents, its authorized representative Benjie Henares told reporters at the NTC headquarters.

The selection committee had named Dennis Uy and China Telecom's Mislatel consortium as the provisional third telecommunications player.

The choice had drawn questions over Davao-based Uy's reported closeness to President Rodrigo Duterte, as the businessman and his wife had donated P31 million to his 2016 presidential campaign.

But Malacañang downplayed this and said personal ties do not matter with the President.

PT&T was disqualified for failure to secure a certificate of technical capability from the NTC, which was supposed to prove its capacity to provide service on a national scale.

The NTC on Wednesday said PT&T failed to meet the requirements to become the country's third major telco player.

Both PT&T and Sear Telecom, backed by former Ilocos Sur Governor Luis "Chavit" Singson, were disqualified Wednesday for submitting incomplete documents. Sear has also expressed its intent to file a motion for reconsideration.
