MANILA - Two Filipino companies were on Tuesday cited by global consulting firm AON Hewitt for tailoring their work environment to the needs of millennials and women.
Millennials comprise 90 percent of in-store workers in McDonald's 540 outlets in the country, said Chona Torre, senior vice president of Golden Arches Development Corp, the Philippine master franchise holder of the American fast food chain.
Golden Arches, which was given a special citation for "commitment to Generation Y," gives out gadgets as prizes for top performers, Torre said. It also uses e-learning tools.
"We provide that kind of stability in our company as well in the kind of learning that we provide, life-long skills," Torre said.
At condiments giant NutriAsia, women make up 30 percent of the workforce and 48 of supervisory positions. AON Hewitt cited the company for its "commitment to women."
NutriAsia allows female employees and husbands to claim maternity benefits in advance instead of after giving birth.
"I guess they truly see that you can go as far as you want, we don't have a glass ceiling when it comes to gender," Flaminiano said.
A performance-driven culture drives the success of companies, said AON Risk Solutions Andrew Minnit.
"If that makes a change in some organization, once you start recognizing performance, people will start to perform and that itself uplifts the standard," Minnit said.
