MANILA -- Those living around the proposed site of a China-funded dam in Quezon province will reap the economic benefits of the project once it is finished, a government official said Monday.
Infanta town Mayor Filipina America had expressed concern that the dam would cause floods. She also expressed concern over a fault line in the area.
An irrigation system will be built alongside the dam to prevent flooding, MWSS Administrator Reynaldo Velasco told DZMM radio.
"Ngayon ang pakinabang naman sa Infanta, Quezon, Gen Nakar more on economic consequence from the project. Sigurado ‘yan magandang kalsada, may tourism, may mga gagawin na project para sa kanila," Velasco said.
(For residents of Infanta and General Nakar, there is an economic consequence of the project. It will lead to better roads and tourism.)
China and the Philippines are set to sign this month the loan agreement for the dam, which is meant to augment water supply in the capital.
