MANILA – Students can now avail of a 20 percent discount on domestic airfares under the implementing rules of a law that granted them such privilege when using public transport., the Civil Aeronautics Board said.
Starting Nov. 1, all Filipino students enrolled in elementary, secondary, technical-vocational and higher education institutions are eligible to avail of the discount on regular domestic flights, the CAB said in a resolution.
Discounted fares are applicable for the entire period that the student is enrolled, including weekends and holidays, the CAB resolution stated.
Students can choose between promotional fares or the discounted regular fare as mandated by R.A. 11314 or the Student Fare Discount Act. President Rodrigo Dutete signed the bill into law last July.
Students are required to present the following identification cards upon purchase of tickets in ticketing offices to avail of the discount:
• School ID
• Validated enrollment form
• Any of the following: Birth certificate, baptismal certificate, Form 137, naturalization certificate, passport
Airlines were authorized to formulate their own verification measures, pending the approval of the guidelines by the CAB board.
Civil and penal liabilities may be enforced on anyone caught falsifying documents, the CAB said.
The Department of Transportation earlier implemented free train rides and waived terminal fees for students.
