MANILA - Voters in the United States have been talking about the effects of retaliatory tariffs from China, ahead of midterm elections that are seen as a referendum on the Trump administration, a journalist covering the vote said Monday.

"This is something that average voters were talking about. They were bringing up tariffs, they were talking about their concerns," Reuters political correspondent Ginger Gibson told ANC.

Although many favored protectionism in 2016, voters are now considering how this stance is affecting the economy, she said.
