Red alert raised in Luzon due to insufficient power supply

MANILA - Luzon island was placed on the highest alert on Friday with peak demand expected to exceed supply due to the unscheduled shutdown of some power plants, the National Grid Corp said.

The red alert will be in effect from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. where demand is expected to reach 9,051 megawatts versus capacity of 9,083 megawatts, the NGCP said on its Facebook page.

There was no immediate announcement of power interruptions.
