MANILA - The Iloilo International Airport will remain closed until Monday noon to give authorities more time to remove a damaged Cebu Pacific jet from its runway, an aviation official said.

The aircraft's nose gear landed on a soft spot of the runway late Friday, forcing the closure of the terminal and the cancellation of several flights.

"Assuming that we brought this aircraft to the remote parking area, then maybe 1 to 2 hours for clearing operations will be enough and we will declare operational the airport," Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines spokesman Eric Apolonio said.

Some flights to Iloilo on Monday were rerouted to Roxas City, he said.
