MANILA – Radio Philippines Network 9 (RPN9) is set to undergo another rebranding after its owners, led by Ambassador Antonio Cabangon-Chua, entered into a partnership with CNN of Time Warner Inc.
Starting January 2015, 9TV will be rebranded as CNN Philippines.
Solar TV Network Inc. and BusinessMirror president Benjamin Ramos confirmed that 9TV will be rebranded as CNN Philippines.
"We confirm report that 9TV will be rebranded as CNN Philippines," he said.
Solar News Channel was recently renamed 9TV following the acquisition of BusinessMirror owner Antonio Cabangon-Chua of a 34-percent stake in RPN-9, held by STVN's Willy Tieng.
Online news network Media Newser Philippines earlier reported that CNN Philippines will carry CNN’s international news coverage and some of their current programming to non-cable Filipino viewers.
It added that both networks will also share their reporting to various CNN bureaus for big stories.
The partnership between RPN9 and CNN is expected to be formalized within the week.
Malacanang revealed as early as 2013 plans to privatize RPN9 and another state-run network IBC 13.
RPN9’s franchise was estimated to cost P800 million while IBC 13’s physical assets and franchise were valued at P1.2 billion.
