MANILA - Malacañang should consult with the country's basic sectors as it addresses the quickening inflation, former Quezon representative and Liberal Party senatorial bet Lorenzo Erin Tañada III said.
Tañada said on ANC's Beyond Politics that the government should seek the side of farmers on the issue of rice importation and provide short- and long-term solutions with the help of various stakeholders.
"The basic sector should be consulted especially with regard to importation, which would affect the lives of many farmers and try to ask them: Ano ba ang tingin niyo ang problema? Paano natin bibigyan ng solusyon ito? Ito ba ay pansamantala o pangmahabaan?" he said.
He added, "May mga mechanisms naman 'yan eh. Madali lang naman gawin 'yan. Hindi naman aabot ng 1 buwan 'yan. I think the consultations can be done in 2 weeks and then come out with proper policy recommendations."
Tañada also said all Filipinos, regardless of political affiliation, face the same problems and are affected by the government's policies.
"If you look at the problems the Philippine society's experiencing right now, hindi naman 'dilawan' lang ang naaapektuhan 'di ba. Even pro-Duterte supporters are being affected by policies of this government," he said.
"Whether dilawan ka, whether pula ka, orange ka, pare-parehong problemang hinaharap natin. We have the same problems and these are the same problems that we have to solve. So using colors to identify people does not solve problems," he added.
