MANILA - Jollibee Foods Corp may open its first store in the United Kingdom by next year, British Ambassador to the Philippines Daniel Pruce said Monday.

Pruce was a recent visitor at Jollibee's 1,000th branch in a "show of support" for plans by the Philippines' largest fast food operator to expand to the UK, home to tens of thousands of Filipinos.

"That’s thrilling for me, I love Chickenjoy; and I’m sure it’s thrilling for everyone in the UK," Pruce told ANC's Headstart.

Jollibee is reportedly in talks for a stake in British sandwich chain Pret a Manger, as it seeks to establish its presence in Europe, according to a Reuters report.
